Slow performance using RAS

I am looking for a zero-client solution for running our existing crystal reports (we have over 150) I'm a looking at RAS as a solution.

I set up the sample, ePortfolio Lite, to test some of the reports, and everything works ok. But the performance is So unbelievably slow!!! It takes 30 seconds just to get a logon prompt and then another 30 or 40 for the report to render.

I'm running RAS on a P4 2.5 Ghz with 512mb ram -- so I doubt its the hardware. The database server is on the same box, so it's not a network thing. Besides, when I open the report with Crystal Reports the data pops right up. Is this really the way RAS performs? Are there some optimizing settings? I checked the "group on server" box but that didn't help.

If you open Crystal Reports and the data just pops, it may be because you have File->Save Data with Report turned on.

Hit the lightning bolt to rerun the report.

Group on Server only works if the report is designed to allow for a grouping to be passed to the server.

The main reason for slow performance in Crystal is designing the report so the it is not not passing SQL to the database.

No, the save data with report is not on. The report is getting live data.

If the design of the report was faulty, wouldn't it also be slow when I run the report with Crystal Reports? My question was: why is it so unreasonably slow when I access the same report with Report Application Server? I expected some delay to generate the HTML, but it shouldn't take 60 seconds to render this simple, one table, listing.
