Slow opening Word document from desktop

Hi

Happy New Year.

Wonder if anyone could help me. Why, when opening a saved document direct from the desktop using Word, would it be incredibly slow. But opening the same document via Word directly, is fine? This is happening on all word documents.

The laptop was infected with the bugbear virus, but has been cleansed of that and has an anti-virus sofware running in the background at all times.

Any help would be received gratefully.

Have you tried disabling your AV and seeing if the problem persists?

This was happening before the av software was installed.
