We moved our files from an old server to new one.
The new one is a win2k SP3 and the latest netshield version
(4.5.1a SP1, engine 4160, scan outbound, scan specified extensions only).
Surprise:
the old nt-server (300 Mhz, 4 years old)
without any virus protection had a better performance then the new one (win2k, 1.1 GHz).
It did not help to exclude certain paths nor to deactivate the on access scanner,
I had stop the service to see the real perfomance of the new server (5 times faster than with deactivated scanner).
With activated scanner you don't see any cpu consumption in
the task manager, with the service stopped you see the peaks in the cpu usage chart while stressing the server.
It did also not help to have the EnableOplock-registry key set to 0 (reboot done).
a strange thing I noticed (scanner activated):
1. when copying a big exe locally on the server: very fast.
2. when copying the same file accessed with an unc-name (\\myserver\samples\big.exe): slow.
3. when copying the same file accessed with networkdrive attached to \\myserver\samples: fast again.
ad 2. looking at the cpu usage while copying: after a short peak percentage drops down to 0% for about 5 seconds, then the file copy is done.
Has anyone a server with an activated netshield not eating away 80% of the performance?
any help appreciated
Roberto
