We hook up almost all our pc's through the 4610 phone's built-in switch, so as to use only one walloutlet and (cisco) switchport.

We found that copy actions to and from the network are very slowed down because of this.
Hooking up the pc without the phone speeds up performance dramatically.

A short time remedy is to reboot the phone (unplug and plug back in), but this only works for a short while.

Is this a known problem / anyone experienced the same ?

We're running rel 2.4 on the phones....

regards,

Have you gone into the phone and checked the port settings. Maybe the ports are locked at a low speed?

Phones are configured ok, as are switchports.
Resetting the phone resolves the problem for a short time, but eventually (hours) the problem is back.

Like there's a buffer running full or something.

We've had problems hard setting the speed on the PC and phone ports.

Try having the PC and phone set to auto.

Sorry but no cigar - everything is already on auto.

Our supplier suggested to update to the latest phone software and to try an external poweradapter instead of the Cisco's built-in.

Not much confidence in this, as the slowing down seems to 'grow' in time...

We had a similar issue, with "Delayed write" errors a common problem on Windows XP machines. Eventually traced it back to Speed and Duplex settings. To get round this problem, set the switch (right back at your rack) at locked to 100MB FULL duplex, and the PC locked to 100MB FULL duplex, get rid of the AUTO settings, as we found they caused the bottleneck with the PC and the Phone and the main switch never quite agreeing on speed and duplex.

Hi.
We had the exact same problem but with 1608 phones.
It turns out that they slow down the network only when using a VLAN. As soon as we turned it off, the speed was ok.

Everyone - thanks for your input.

I've updated some of the phones to the latest f/w (2.8.3) in which you can actually set the speed and duplex of the two ports on the phone (wasn't available in 2.4 - see previous message).

Matched them to the settings on the switch and connected pc and this solved the problem.
Everything is on auto speed and auto duplex, and this seems to work fine.

Going to 'upgrade' one of our smaller offices first, and if that goes well, the entire company.
