Hi!

I am having a problem of very slow accessing of folders that have large amount of files in the file server. This is using Win XP.

I was able to get around this problem in WinNT machines by having NWLink NetBios on top of WINS client.

Noticed that if we change the NIC link speed from Auto to Full duplex, it gives faster access but once the machine is rebooted it get's back to the same speed.

Your help would be much appreciated.

you need to try this on the switch - fix the speed and duplex on the switch to 100MB full duplex - auto will not do - had that problem on cisco 3548 switch

Thanks for the reply, the type of switch (D-Link 24 Port 10/100) we use is preset to AutoSensing & cann't be changed. Is there any other way you could suggest?

Thanks in advance.
