Any ideas on why HP-UX backups would only run at 30-40K/sec while other backups on the network (NT/2000 and netware) are running in the 5M/sec range. Has anyone else run into this? HP_UX is version 10.20, networker server is Win2K running 6.2. HP client is 6.1.2 running to an ADIC Scalar 100 LTO library. any help would be appreciated.. Thanks!

When backups start from this client do they run a good speeds then slow down to the speeds you are seeing? if this is true check the network configuration for both systems and make sure they are either 100/half duplex or 100/full duplex. This might be the problem, and the speed you are seeing is the symptom. DO NOT RELY on auto negotiating network adaptors set them yourself, I have seen many installs where the auto does not work properly.

Your problem is definately due to the speed settings on your NIC and your switch port. HP NIC's do not work well set to Auto. Set your NIC to 100/Full and make sure the switch port is set to 100/Full Auto-Off. We backup over 100 servers to an Hp LClass with 4 NIC's every night. We see through puts of 5-7 MB/Sec compared to 300k/sec when NIC's are set to Auto.
