I have a window server 2003 and 20 windows xp sp2 domain users. My problems are the following.
1.Some of the domain users are very slow at start up and also after start up.But no problem when I log on to the pc by the local administrator account.

2.Microsoft office files do not open when I log on as a domain user but no problem when I log on by a local administrator account.

Any help please.

My DNS server is my ISP DNS that is :

Prifferd DNS: 213.55.64.36
Alternative DNS: 213.55.64.38

What you should do is install DNS on your domain controller unless you have a second server. Also what is doing DHCP? Please give my a break down of your network and what your sever or servers are doing.

Fix your DNS and you will fix your issue. All workstations should look to your 2003 server only for DNS. Your 2003 server should have DNS installed and forwarders setup to your ISP DNS.

preferred DNS: 213.55.64.36
alternative DNS: 213.55.64.36

My server being added the following roles:

Domain controller(active directory),

Default gateway: 10.38.16.1

Ok you need to put your ISP DNS servers into your DNS forwarers and make sure all your clients point to your DNS Server. Also check your reverse zone to make sure your subnet is listed there. After all is configured then have all pc's reboot and all should be good.

Sory I am late.I put my ISP DNS servers into the DNS forwarders and the clients are pointing to my DNS server. My subnet is listed in the reverse lookup zone.Bun no change yet.

Is your server only looking to itself for DNS in TCP/IP config? Make sure you use the servers IP address for its DNS address not the 127.0.0.1 loopback address. Boy thats a big subnet, do you really need the whole class A for your network?

Thank you roadki11 .I use my server ip add for the preferred DNS and that of my ISP for the alternative DNS.

From any workstation command line do an nslookup ServerName and an nslookup ServerIP and nslookup yahoo.com, does it return the correct info? Then from the server command line do an nslookup AnyWorkstationName and an nslookup AnyWorkstionsIP, does it return the correct info?
