is it normal for it to take so very long whehn borwings remote servers to select what to backup in a a job within backup exec?

No thats not normal. What happens if when you try to browse thry My Network places on that Media server thru windows? If thats slow that is why Backup Exec slow. Backup Exec queries My Network places or windows networking.

its juist on the san, unfortunatly without some kind of samba compatible agents i cant use backup exec to backup the san with is extremely irritating!

In Backup Exec the SAN resources need to be presented locally to the media server. Or you need to install the Backup Exec remote agent on a server that is being presented the SAN resources and select the resources thru the server.

I CANT SEEM TO BE ABLE TO INSTALL THE SAN TOOLS WHEN I GO TO ADD/REMOVE COMPONENTS, ANY IDEAS?

I dont get it..Backup Exec doesnt have SAN Tools
