OK - A common problem this and will hopefully be met with a quick answer.

I had 2 disks on my machine, 40Gb Master and 10Gb Slave.
I have just replaced the 10Gb Slave with another 40Gb drive (identical to the Master). The problem is getting this drive recognized.

The BIOS seems to see it, however when I run fdisk and format it only sees approx 6Gb.

Any ideas?? My BIOS can see the Master OK!!!

1) Are the jumpers on your slave drive set to slave?

2) Does the master have different jumper settings for Master and Master w/Slave?

3) Do both drives have the same settings in your CMOS setup screen?

4) Did you answer 'Yes' to 'Use LBA?' when you (or whoever) *initially* fdisk'ed it? If not (or you're not sure) remove all the partitions, reboot, and rebuild the partitions making sure to answer yes to "Use LBA" when starting fdisk.

Thanks for the response.

I was aware of all these points and had (I thought) carried them out. However, point 2 intriged me, so I change the jumper on the master to master with slave and rebooted - this time it did not see the master. Changed it back, rebooted and reran fdisk on the slave and it was fine!!! Bizarre - not sure what the problem was now!!!
