I have an existing Starplus 616EX System. I would like to add a cordless phone to it. As far as I can tell no one has ever made a compatible cordless. If I get an SLA MDL#9854-00 for a standard cordless will I get useable functionality from it? Will it pick up any line that is currently ringing? Will I be able to transfer a call to another station, or put the call on hold from the cordless handset? Do I need to program the SLA or is it seen like any other station by the KSU. If I could find a manual for the SLA online that would probably answer all my questions.

I'm not sure about the Starplus 616Ex, but in general a SLA is required to convert a digital station to analog. Some SLA's take one digital port and return 2 analog ports, some are one to one. In any case the functions of the cordless phone connected to the SLA would be dependent on using system based flash codes. The line ringing assignments would be set in system program. Probably will not be able to put a call on hold, but have to put it in a "park location" so another caller can pick it up.

Hope this helps

In the documentation I have for the 616EX I cant find a reference to "Flash Codes". I have the General Description, Installation, and Maintenance Manual, and the Enhanced and Executive Station User Guide. They mention using the 'Flash Button' but I won't have access to that on the cordless. Is there another manual I need?

Look in the documentation you have for subjects covering "single line" telephone features. If your cordless phone does not have a "flash" key, depressing the hook switch briefly should have the same effect, either way you will have to enter a numeric code after the flash/hookswitch to access your phone system functions.

Thank you! I'll have to wait for the SLA to get hear to try it, but it sounds like this is going to work.

Thanks again, for your help.

By now you have probably found out the the SL adapter does not work :)

The gray box for a SP flat pack was probably SP-555-10. It isn't really identified in the manual, but if I'm wrong, you have a 6 pin (3x2) header in the box with a jumper. The Jumper goes across the middle two pins for a 616 (308/616/1224).

It's wired to an even/odd extension combination and, obviously, can't be on ext 10. If you add the second extension, it MUST be on the sister station. You must turn on PLA.

That's about all I know, except I have the manual :)

Now I'm really lost. I tried the IN9854-00-L SLA that I bought. As you perdicted it didn't work. Not even a dial tone. I'm not sure I have it hooked up correctly. I connected DKT1-T to VT2, and DKT1-R to VR2. Then connected SLT1-T and SLT1-R to the center 2 pins on the analog phone. T to White/Blue and R to Blue.

I don't know what you mean by "SP flat pack was probably SP-555-10". I opened up the 9854 and didn't see any headers at all. Are you talking about a header in the PBX unit?

I'll have to go back to the programming documentation to be sure but I don't think that Preferred Line Answer is turned on. That may be my issue.

No, I'm saying that the SLA adapter for the SP308EX/616EX/and 1232 is a GRAY box about the size of a paperback book and PN SP-584-00.

I'm guessing that the PN that starts with IN is for an Infinite system. At any rate, it's listed for the DVX and Triad system, not the SP-616EX.

I happen to have one of these in my warehouse. I'm going to try to send an image of the box here:

It looks like I bought the wrong SLA. The one you have has a 4 wire input which makes a lot more sense to me.

I'm swamped with other work right now, but if you are selling the one you have I'll contact you when I get a chance to get back to this project.
