SL-1 floppy drives no read

I have an sl-1 system with dual 3.5" floppy drives. When I went to do a LD-10,(I tried other LD's also) I got and IOD050 error and cannot get it to read from the A drive (don't know about B:). I used wet floppy clean disk several times and tried other backup floppies, but get the same no read problem.
1) Is this likely the drive and the NT8D68AA card, so that if I replace it it will work again?
2) Can I just pull the card with the power on and replace it? Or do I need to disable it (how do I do that?) Replace, then re-enable?
3) Can I disable, then re-enable, now ,(before replacement) to see if that makes it happy (remember I can't load programs!)
Thanks<
Gary

ignore my post, did not see you have NT8D68AA
that would mean you have a QPC742 instead of QPC584 which the Hex codes apply to ....

that is an FDU, has to be disabled to replace it. To do that, log into the system, at the > type DIST, disable the FDI card with the faceplate switch, remove the floppies from the FDU and pull it out. Insert the replacement, connect all cables, setthe faceplate swith on the FDI to ENL and at the >, type ENLT. No guarantees that that's it but is the logical place to start

IOD0050 n MSI/Tape unit n is not ready.
Action: Check disk/tape cartridge for proper seating. With disk systems, try
operation again while watching the Mass Storage Interface display.

Did you watch the Drive to see if you get an activity light?

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

Thanks for the help guys!
What I have been seeing is, yes the floppy light comes on for about 8 seconds. The QPC742E LED display starts out saying 10, then says 7C for 2 seconds, then flashes what could be E6 for a fraction of a second.
Since then I have done the Type "DIST", disable FDI with switch, removed floppies (reseated all the cables on the board) replaced them, (and now this is maybe the part I should not have done!), removed the FDI card (QPC742E) to reseat it, then flip switch back to enable and type in "ENLT".

The disable light on the FDI card went out but the floppy no longer responds with the drive A light going on. The FDI LED now show 00. The response I get on the crt is;
IOD050 0
OVL005

If I can get the floppy to respond again, I can swap the A and B drives on the board to see if it is one of them (which I probably have in stock!), but I need to have it at least trying the floppy.
Thanks,
Gary

on these the A drive is a read drive and the B drive is a write drive, without A, you can't "load from disk".

Try removing the Disk and reinserting it.

If all else Fails, do an INI after hours, it takes about 20 to 40 sec depending on the size of your system.

1) Does the INI require reading the diskettes?
2) Is this the press the black button INI or another type?
Thanks,
