Greetings:

I'm wondering if anyone can help me with an issue that someone I know is having. They are being accused of rolling back/skimming hours, etc., all to create the appearance of keeping the kitchen's hours low. I know this person well, they aren't malicious enough or even all that creative to have come up with this idea. Have there every been instances where the clock-out hours are being adjusted by 1-hour and it hasn't been purposely done, what would be the cause? I wouldn't think DST would be the issue as it isn't all that consistent but it is occurring often enough to have drawn attention. All the terminals are displaying the same time. The software has been in place for a long while now, no updates have been applied (that are known.) There are 5 terminals at this location, the manager has a magnetic card and the employee needs them to be present to clock them in/out. No one else has access to their mag card as they keep it on them at all time.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, as this would not be a great time to lose their job (baby on the way).

Thanks again,

-Ellie

There are labor reports that will show any editting that occurs on the system. Those should show if anything strange is being performed on back of house or front of house.

They've already run the reports and it shows the edits being done by this person. They are swearing they did not alter the hours. Is there any system error or even a funky keystroke that could account for this?

Thanks

If they login with a number then anybody could have done it.
Look for a day or time that edits where done when he knows he was somewhere else or off.
I would also look at who else was working that days
edits where done

Would'nt staff now their checks are short.

No system glitches or funky keystrokes can account for this. A live person has to go through the steps in the front of house or back of house.

I've had 2 different instances in the past where a terminal's time had changed by exactly 1 hour. This definitly affected punch times. Actually, clever servers used said terminal to their advantage and picked up an extra hour!

1. In a mixed OS environment and inconsistent DST settings across the network, certain terms would lose (or gain, don't remember) an hour. I'm not sure what Aloha's policy is on DST but we keep everything unchecked. Still it seems everytime DST rolls around we have issues.

2. Several months ago we did a file server changeout and went with 2003 Server. Everyday around 4 pm all the times would change by an hour. Found it was a tab in the date and time display that says "Sync with internet time", it was checked. We unchecked, problem solved.
