Howdy all,

With exchange 5.5 running on NT 4.0, are there any known problems with size limits not showing up as the same on the client as on the server?

The issue is that the users are reporting that thier local inboxes on the client side is showing up as having capacities below the allowed limit on the mailbox size, yet the server is showing that they are far above the limit and have shut down their ability to send or receive new emails. The only way to get their accounts released is to have the users limits set to unlimited, and we just don't have the server space for that. Any help would be appriciated. Thanks guys!

Ben

The discrepancy on size limit calculation should be off by at least 500KB - 1MB when the file in question is big. This has to do with the way Windows calculate file size both on the client and on the IMS meter. In general, the bigger the attachment, the higher the discrepancy.

That's good info. Thanks.

But, the problem is a bit different. Size isn't the only detail that is wrong. The number of messages shows up different as well. The user will have a mailbox with 2 messages totaling maybe 1mb, but the server shows 200 messages totally 100mb. Your explaination helps solve some other problems though. It looks like to me that the server and the client are refusing to sync up, and that the server isn't deleteing the messages as it should.

Thanks for the fast reply!!

Sorry I mis-read your post. Thought it was about sending limit.

Ok back to your problem. Have you tried clean mailbox from the Exchange Administrator and check all the associated types (Calendar, Journal, Notes, Contacts, Tasks, E-Mail messages, All custom types, Both read and unread ithems, Normal, Private, Personal, Confidential, Delete folder associated information).

Some of the number of items, and size, represented the journalling numbers, the sent items, the deleted items that have not past retention date.

Awesome, that worked!! Of course, I now have more work to do.

Thanks alot!
