We installed SMS 2.0 SP1 and we have a couple clients working just fine but the majority of clients are not working. The client software is installed on the computer but under the Microsoft SMS console\collections\all systems the clients appear but the site code is not listed and also under Client and Assigned is show a "NO". I cannot communicate with any of these clients. What is the problem? Please HELP!!! I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out this stuff.

THANKS

When the Assigned column shows "No", it normally means that the subnets entered in your site boundaries do not match the IP address/subnet mask combination on your client.

For instance, if your client had an IP address of 190.115.22.100 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, then you would need a boundary entered in your site properties of 190.115.22.0.

Thanks for responding. I looked at one client and the IP was 131.52.30.238 then I check my subnet selection and I had 131.52.30.0 selected. The client software is getting installed and SMS finds it but on the client (Control Panel/System Management/Sites) the Site does not appear. Although the client software is loaded, I do not see any SMS accounts on the clients.

I have just installed SMS2 SP3 as a primary site for about 1500 machines. We have many subnets all falling withing the 10.1.0.0. However, one subnet is 10.1.1.0 with 255.255.255.0 as the mask. With more than 70 subnets active, I thought adding an entry in the site bounderies of 10.1.0.0 would get everyone. However, this is doing the same thing as Airforce's network.

Question, is SMS sensitive to network masking?

In other words, if I have 30 networks starting at 192.168.1.0 with a mask of 255.255.255.128 can I just enter 192.168.0.0 or do I have to make individual entries for every network, ie.
192.168.1.0
192.168.1.128
192.168.2.0
192.168.2.128
etc.

help or comments appreciated.

Also, Airforce, what is your subnet mask for the machine you checked? 131.52.30.238
