This is a root relative site on a campus server, and all the links were broken upon upload.

Hyperlinks check out, but it is stalled on the server.

Can anyone venture a guess as to why?

Thanks,

sue

Have you tried naming the index.htm to index, html?

Also you are on a Unix server, it seems. You probably need index.cache and index files in each directory. Most linux builds don't require this, I don't know if it is a Unix thing or has to do with the apache build.

You will probably find the two files I refer in the root directory... just copy them top the other directories. Hope this helps. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

I am thinking maybe a base href would help? The wrapper and root directory appear to be lost. When I check the hyperlinks, they don't go back to a root!

I don't think it has anything to do with the server type.

Thanks,

sue

When I check hyperlink properties, they don't go back to the actual root, which is /chasouthern/csusports/

Instead, they go back to the parent directory's root.

Could the upload be misconfigured on the server so that the actual site root is lost? How would this happen?

Thanks,

sue

for the relative links you will need to add the chasouthern/csusports/ to the links since you are in a sub directory of root.... When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Viol8tion:

I think you are correct, that the site has been made a subdirectory of a root instead of being configured on the server as an independent subweb.

Instead of going back and editing all the hyperlinks, can the URL be resolved by use of the absolute address as base href?

Thanks for your help and suggestions, everyone.

Sue

You will still have to change the hyperlinks.. you have this code:
<img src=&quot;/blahblah/blah/&quot;> .. remove the first forward slash to refer UP to the next directory rather than back to Root. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

OK, that makes sense, but the site still has to be root relative since it contains a lot of archived stories that will need to be stuffed into &quot;Old&quot;...

If I edit to force things up one directory, will I then lose all the archive links when updating the sports stories?

Thanks for all assistance

I generally use absolute addresses myself, but if you ever change a domain name that can be a lot of work to fix... been there, done that!

Either way, it looks like spoole has a big, tedious job ahead! The hyperlinks should be changed the same as images, remove that first forward slash from the links... Or see if you can have the site as a sub domain... ie: the site would refer to the same directory it is now located in, but would act as Root for that site. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Yup. That's the solution. On a campus server, how would I get this site turned into a subdomain? Because it was originally meant for FTP to a public server...

Your help is greatly, greatly appreciated!
