I have been developing a site for a photographer. Anyone that would take a look and let me know what you think would be great.

when responding, please let me know your browser and version.

thanks Hope this helped!

Hiya...i'm using IE6 on a win98 PC...
To begin with:
1) Nice site layout and color usage...:)
2) The drop down choices for the menu should be a few pixels lower...when you mouse over the sections (Home, Travel Collections, etc...) the sub-menu appears too high almost cutting off the bottoms of the menu choices...try having the submenu appear directly underneath the menu border, know what I mean??
3) Also, in the menu, not too happy with the color choices there...instead of using yellow for the submenu try using gray, the mouseover color for the submenu is fine...
4) I would try using CSS tags for the text links (like the email and webmaster link)...
5) Any reason why your site meter is a link??
6) In the ORDER FORM: I tried to send a blank form and it went through, might wanna have some kind of validation or you'll get flooded with bogus emails...
7) Also, in the ORDER FORM: when I submitted the blank form, the confirmation said I selected --
Print Size1: 1
Print Size2: 1
Print Size3: 1
Payment Method: 1
Submit Order Form: Submit Order Form

And all I did was just hit the Submit button...

Hope I helped ya...
I have not failed; I merely found 100,000 different ways of not succeding...

thanks for the critique, i will look at lowering the submenus and changing the colors. I'm experimenting with the colors, not many the owner likes over the pale yellow but I'm working with it. Doesn't want to much contrast over the photos and really doesn't like grey as he is color blind and that is pretty much what he sees anyway. Wanted to use a pale color that would not overpower the photos but didn't want to use anything in the black range (grey)

I'll also check on the order form - can't understand why it is saying to 1. Simple coding change fixed it.

I am using style sheets, I had the text (main text) set at a larger font and black. changed it to match the footer text, your right, it looks better.

thanks again. Hope this helped!

No problem, do you know how to use CSS for links?? Use that so it looks sleeker...
As for the color scheme...ummm, have you tried using the blue color tag #004080?? Has a nice blue-ish hue to it...what I do when i'm using colors is see what matches with what...but personaly im sure that the gray color will fir just nicely with your current color scheme...
Oh well...hope all this helps ya... I have not failed; I merely found 100,000 different ways of not succeding...

I know how to use css but I'm not quite sure what you are referring to i.e., making them sleeker.

sample would help. Hope this helped!

Mouse over any link in this forum, do you see the link change somehow?? Like the "E-Mail Notification" link above the Preview Post button, see how it goes from blue-underline to red-nounderline??
That is what I meant...looks much sleeker then the average text link... I have not failed; I merely found 100,000 different ways of not succeding...

Hi,

I have just visited evocative-images and would like to make a few points that I hope may be helpful.

I was able to view your site in the following.
WinXP/Win2000/Win98 PC IE6/5/4/ NS6 and NN at 64 bit to 16 bit color on 28, 21, 17 and 15 inch monitors. (We are heavily into graphics and VR environments so we have to have a wide range of test gear for ourselves, quite handy)

The Mac's I leave for my partner (sorry)

Pleased to say your site got the thumbs up on all but the older browsers IE4 and NN, which degraded the images badly and at anything under a 17in mon. popped in the dreaded horizontal scrollbar !! as well there were occasions when the navbar stayed centered and the top graphic aligned left. The other point I must make is load time ( I realize you have had a real challenge in presenting such a huge number of graphics,) but every time I read an apology and a plea to be patient I often don't have the patience required to wait. The load time was no worry for us as we are on a fibre optic cable connection, however the majority of people way down here south of the equator are still on 28 or 56k modems connected through at least 40 year old copper. My major concern however is to do with the top image, as first impressions may be all that will keep viewers waiting around for the page to load fully. The stark white rectangle over the detailed and colourful background concerned me a lot. Would you consider perhaps reducing the opacity of the white to about 30% which would still provide enough contrast for the text to stand out but would also allow the panaramic scene behind to become an integral part of the header ??. As you are still working on the overall colour sceme I won't comment further, but I will check in for another view in the future. Congratulations on pulling together a huge amount of graphics in the way you have to produce a high quality site.

Hope you may find some of the above useful.

Regards
Wayne

Hi mate,

Nice site,

You really will have to do something about the load time if you want users other that those on high speed connections.

wingover

You said that you tested on "28, 21, 17 and 15 inch monitors." Sorry to say this, but that information is totally useless to anyone. The monitor size does not make the slightest difference to the layout of the page, only that the display is a different size. You need to specify what resolutions that you used, not the monitor size.

I am on 800x600 and have no scrollbar. (Btw. Just to prove my point more, I am on a 15 inch monitor)[wink]

Hope this helps Wullie

Thanks for all of the comments. Everything is being considered and I am still working on making the site the best I can. I'm working on the colors, that is quite difficult as the owner really doesn't want anything to distract from his photos, and I can understand that.

I will continue to work on it until i get it right.

Again, many thanks for all of your suggestions and comments. Hope this helped!

I think I actually used this site awhile ago trying to figure out how to paint the eyes of an eagle statue I was working on.

The pictures did help by the way.. so I give it the thumbs up. --------------------------------------
