SIPL - Registration and Configuration ?

Scenario - trying to implement SIPL with (1120e) on a CS1000E Rlse 7.5 SP24 - H323 licenses, SIPL and SIP port licenses - NO SIP trunk license. Running a CPPM core and a CPPM SS - with EM,SS, and NRS as the apps. Dialling plans in NRS and PBX implemented.
Situation - I seem to be able to get this configured either either way - just not sure which is ultimately the correct path to take. Have read every NTP, thread etc and I'm at the point of lighting the torch....*** As far as I can tell with my license situation "Setup B" makes sense, however, everything I have read says the SIP device is supposed to register as an end point in NRS - thus I have more work to do if "Setup A" is in play.

Setup A - H323 and SIP GW enabled in the SS and SIPL configured etc..
When the 1120e registers as an endpoint in the NRS it shows unregistered in the PBX (idu xx xx xx xx)and inbound calls and out bound calls do not work. (DCH, ELAN and apps all show AOK) Traces show the DCH is silent if/when the SIP device is in play.

Setup B - H323 enabled only in the SS with SIPL configured etc..
The SIP phone registers to the PBX etc ., and everything works like a charm (seems to) except the device does not register as an endpoint in the NRS. Inbound and Outbound calling seem to work as advertised. (DCH , ELAN and apps all show AOK) Traces show the DCH working as advertised if/when the SIP device is in play.

Is setup A or setup B the proper configuration approach ? A lite push in the proper direction would be appreciated.

Is no one running SIPL ??
Yikes - Houston we have a problem ! (LOL)

Sorry, but I have to ask. Why do you want to do this? I honestly have never set up an 1100 series phone on a CS1k as SIP for the simple reason is there is no reason to do this. Unless you are just bored and doing a test or maybe out of IP licenses?

UNIStim is the protocol used by the 1100-series for the greatest functionality. You can load SIP on it but the feature set is limited to what you get with UNIStim.

Yahoo ! Houston is back on line !

I agree with both comments 100% and both are spot on.
My problem is management purchased a few Avaya B179(SIP) conference phones to use with a 3rd party video conference unit. I have been kept in the dark on how they planned to interface. I was trying to be proactive and set up a test unit (SIP) in the event they wanted the B179 units to be part of the existing PBX. Thus the SIP questions. I suspect the B179 configuration is a bit different however I thought conceptually it would be similar to an 1120e configured with the SIP protocol stack.

Any thoughts or suggestions or is it 4th and long and time to punt !

Hi KCFLHRC

Have read them both - till I'm blue. Probably missed some points however that is basically why I posted in first place ref the phone registration/working discrepancy with the 1120e (SIP). Both NTP's have great info but it looks like it may be time to punt. The registration/operation scenario may change with the B179 configuration, however I will have to wait and see it if management lets me have one to configure and implement.

Thanks for the responses

If you are going to use SIP Line then the SIP Line server application is part of EM, so the phone will not register with NRS, only to the switch. If you go into the EM under System » IP Network » Node Maintenance and Reports » General Commands..SipLine..slgSetShowAll you will see the phone registered there

Hi 1Gordo,

Sorry for the late response

Yup - This would correlate what I was looking for in my first post.

Thanks again to all who responded -
