Curious to know if anyone has dropped their PRI vendor in favor of SIP trunks? How does SIP compare to PRI in terms of quality, uptime, etc...?

I looked into some about 6 months ago and our vendors really were not cuttng us much/any of a price break over PRI so it really didn't make sense for us at the time. The 1 plus side we did see however was the ability to turn up capacity fast by adding trunks to the circuits and/or changing the codec on the fly to double capacity during peak sales periods, then turning them back down days later.

I have both installed, and some vendors can get you some pretty good pricing, but we use our regular PRIs for traffic, and use SIP as overflow right now. We are always changing stuff up, so it could change again next week.

Thank you. This is helpful.

Is the setup of a SIP trunk similar to the setup of a H.323 tie trunk? I would think so, but haven't had to set one up as of yet.
