I have an Option 61 Rls 4.5.
I was thinking of getting SIP trunks to connect to an Asterisk system. We do not have a signaling server.

Is it possible to add the SIP trunks in to this system without a sig server?

I do notice that SIP access ports is an Option in the slt I ran. This is what is making me think it could be possible.

Only way you can do SIP trunks is if you have a signaling server. No way around that requirement.

I was hoping for something. I thought that as the OTM connects via IP there might even be some way to do IP trunking without a sig serv. Management does not want to spend the kind of money a sig serve would require. Our last quote from our vendor was about $25000 go fully ip capable.

I did notice the OTM had an option for ITG IP trunking so I figured there was a way at some time.

Dear hurricaneguy , with ref to your quote if you see no "of licenses for SIP access ports " is zero , when you will ask to order for the same AVAYA NORTEL will suggest the solutionwith Sig Server . So SS is essential in this case.

Avaya makes a SIP gateway called Aura to address this problem. I've not seen one but I'd look at it before I dropped $25K on an upgrade to add SIP. I've heard Mitel has a product too. Good luck.

With reference to OTM/TM IPTrunks that would be the ITG option, but thats going back instead of forward

Cheers!!

Definitely a step backwards. ITG trunk does H.323 trunking only, and not SIP. By the time you bought the parts (and ITG ISDN trunk ISMs, if you can still get them), you'd have spent half as much as what a sig server, VGMC and SIP ISMs would cost.
