On my V3 I already have a STMI card for the IP phones but was told that todo SIP trunking I need to purchase an additional STMI card. The V5 has a dual purpose STMI card which can handle ip phones and IP trunking and the V6 is coming in January.
Question - when I purchase the additional STMI card for the V3 will I be able todo SIP trunking between the other 2 PBX?
Want to dial extensions between the PBX.

Absolutely yes. In V3 a particular IP functionality was dedicated to each STMI. Therefore you will need to purchase another STMI for that V3 system to support either H323 or SIP Trunking.

In V5 & V6, the STMI boards support multiple functionalities on a single board. There are some rules, such as H323 and SIP trunking cannot reside on the same board. If you need to add HG3550 to your V5 & V6 STMI board, and it already has other functions such as IP Phones already configured, then everything must be deleted from the STMI, then rebuilt to accommodate the additional HG3550 function. Of course you can use the REGEN feature to simplify that process.....

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT AFTER-THOUGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to ensure that we are on the same page here: in your V3 system, is your STMI board actually a 60 or 120 B-channel STMI2? Or is it the original 30 B-channel STMI?

If your HiPath 4000 V3 is a STMI2, and your V5 & V6 STMI boards are STMI2 or STMI4 boards, then my previous answer stands.

However, if your HiPath 4000 V3 board is the original 30 B-channel STMI, then you are using IP Trunking V1, which uses a different "stack" compared to the IP Trunking V2 which uses the STMI2 and/or STMI4. Both versions of IP Trunking (V1 & V2) are supported thru V5 - not sure about V6 yet - will check on that today. But if you currently use the 30 B-channel STMI today in the V3 system, this changes my answer. An IP Trunking V1 board cannot communicate directly with an IP Trunking V2 board because of the stack differences. There are two solutions for this scenario. The BEST solution will be for you to abandon the original 30 B-channel STMI and purchase STMI2 for the V3 system. You will then be running IP Trunking V2 between all systems, including V6 - works beautifully. Second solution: if you retain the original 30 B-channel STMI, then you are technically running in "Mixed Environment" mode. If you have three systems, then you will have your original STMI in the V3 system, and you must install a second 30 channel STMI in the V5 system (yes, this is supported in V5). If you are attempting to call from the V3 system to the V6 system, then your call must travel from the V3 STMI to the V5 STMI using IP Trunking V1. Then the V5 system will convert that to TDM, then send the call to a STMI2 or STMI4 in the V5 system and then onwards to the V6 system. Why? There must be a point of conversion between IP Trunking V1 and IP Trunking V2 - in this example this conversion happens in the V5 system via TDM. Difficult to explain, but it does work this way.

I HOPE you have STMI2 in your V3 system so that you can avoid this scenario. Please re-post so I don't have to worry about my previous response!!!!!!!! I can send documentation to further explain "mixed environment" if necessary. Thanks

In my V3 I just did a Dis-bcsu and the stmi2 is a 120 B-channel unit .. Q2316-x10. I have just 15 IP phones on it.
Can I, and yes I am over simplify this, simply purchase a STMI2, add it with BCSU into an available slot and then configure the ip part? I certainly have enough licenses available.

Also what the difference between STMI2 and STMI2IGW? or do I worry about this ?
Thanks again for the after - thought. Made me look

I don't do anything on the 4000, but if using gateways on the 3000 systems all systems have to be the same version software to work?
I know you are saying sip trunks, and using a external server, it will not matter, but you also said you want to do extension to extension calling between pbx's.

They gave me that same line of crap on my 9006 stuff when I went to add my Hicom 150 (ended up becoming the 3000) into my CorNet network. I bought all the stuff and then they refused to hook it up unless I spent $29,000 to get all my switches to the same software version because there would be issues otherwise. I argued with them and told them the only one that mattered was the one connected directly to the 150, but they said no. So I sat down with the book and programmed my own CorNet trunk on the 150, set up all the routing, etc, turned it on, and, wow... the thing ran just fine for 10 years! I can't say everything will be that way, but I tend to question authority when things just don't make sense to me!

Great! A 60-channel STMI2 will support TWO 30 B-channel SIP Trunks, for a total of 60 B-channels. From that one STMI2 board, you will be able to dial to any other site in your network (referred to as Point-to-MultiPoint), as long as each site also has a STMI2 configured properly. There is no need for dedicated point-to-point trunks (like regular Cornet). If you need to enable DMC to minimize delay, then the number of usable channels will drop to 45.

In V3, IP functions were dedicated to each STMI board, so your 120-channel board with only 15 phones cannot be re-configured to "share" the SIP Trunking. So YES, purchase another STMI2 and you will be on your way.

"STMI2" is the name of the IP-capable board. "STMI2IGW" is a branch of AMO STMIB (in HiPath 4000 V3) that is used to configure H323 and/or SIP Trunking. You'll have to type it many times during the config process.

Will a well-trained engineer be implementing your SIP Trunking? I can send you some documentation, BUT I would highly recommend having Siemens or BlackBox perform the config. It can be tricky, and there is a faint possibility of corrupting the database during step 1 (to activate the Large Enterprise GateKeeper). Please do not attempt the task unless you know what you are doing!!!

Again thanks for your information..Extremely helpful.
As for the last part, There was an agreement when we installed the new V5, that the tech would configure that end and walk me thru configuring the V3. I wanted to learn. If you wouldn.t mind sending me some documentation that would be great also. I could use that to follow as my tech walks me thru the process.
This brain ain't what is used tobe.
Again thanks

Wrong PC right now. I'll post a nice config guide for download over the weekend.

Can you still download the config file for me ?

This doc works for HiPath 4000 V3 only. Things changed in V4 and beyond. Re-post if you need V4 and beyond docs.

Config procedure begins on page 26. Procedure shows how to do both H323 and/or SiP, so read each step carefully.
Good luck.

Thanks
Unable to downlaod from work computer so will do it from home later.

Thanks again.

I tried to open the file after I downloaded it , but
I got an error message " not supported file type or file is damaged"
Tried twice with same results
Could you resend please

Thanks

Not sure what happened on that previous attempt. Same file - works this time. Good luck!
