Hello Everyone,

We are currently working to migrate from analog lines to digital sip trunks. We have an Avaya IP office 500 v2 running the latest software. Has anyone worked with any reliable and very compatible sip trunk providers? We are looking for just 5 at the moment.

Thanks!

@phoneguy610, do you have a link to specific details about their sip trunking services, or can otherwise share some details on how they might compare with others?

they offer something very awesome- cloud based auto attendants or failovers that automatically detect if you lose internet

price wise they are $17.95 per call path and in your situation 2500 outbound minutes would be more then enough at about $70 per month.

they also offer call path bursting which is a great feature not many providers have

Inbound minutes are unlimited.

@phoneguy610, very interesting, how long have you been working with them? Have you connect with other PBX's besides IPO?

Personally, I just use mine over a 30/10 cable connection, and it works fine. Though, there are times when quality gets spotty, but that is no fault of flowroute. I have no illusions that my "home" internet connection is going to provide awesome voice quality. I've installed other sip providers on fibre connections, 30/30, bonded t1's, etc. It's like throwing a 1k piece puzzle into the ocean and hoping it still has all the pieces intact when it reaches wherever.

@AACon, What do you have for QOS setup? What router do you use? I assume this particular setup is for your personal use or is it for more than a few users?

We have had a decent experience with VOIP Innovations but have recently started moving our customers over to Momentum. We are in the West Georgia area and have partnered with them on a hosted solution as well. VOIP Innovations gives you a back office login so you can manage your Endpoints and DIDs so you have control of them. We also recently started using the MikroTik RouterBoard 750 for firewall and QOS of our SIP Trunks and has been working really well once we learned the router. We will install SIP Trunks on nothing but Broadband. AT&T DSL is a joke and terrible for SIP Trunks.

My setup is only for myself in my lab (home office). My router does not do "proper" qos for voip applications, but once it gets past the router anyhow, it's a crap shoot. Internally it does fine on my gige.

@overthebars, Ditto on DSL, absolutely useless, same for MikroTik, but we typically do the 951 and we have an excellent tech. I certainly see Momentum looking a bit more professional, but what were the 2 key things that pushed you to them from VI? (if you don't mind sharing) For me it is more about the reasons resellers like us might from VOIP provider A to B as we are still in the early stages of testing and evaluation.

@AAcon, might consider a Mikrotik, they are very inexpensive for what they can do and while not simple to setup and solid in our experience.

I've looked at the mikrotik routers. They do look nice. For my 1 person lab/office, the buffalo running ddwrt seems to work fine. Though, I do like shiny new toys.

Thanks everyone for providing fantastic suggestions.

@AACon, I called FlowRoute and their packages are extremely attractive, I will try them out!

As for pushing voice packets through the public internet... I'm pretty confident that a crap shoot will be better than what we have now. A few months ago, our analog lines were working perfectly going into the IP office. Recently they have become very staticky. To my surprise the 50 pair cable junction box on the pole going into our building had no cover... called ATT several times, every time they came to "fix the static"... they just put a new black trash bag in the box, tape it up and call it a day. Go figure what happens when it rains down here....

@YanceyWorks We have just had some issues where we have had to Update the DIDs from the Backoffice Login to get the trunks back working. We had one of our Dr offices that everyday after 5 the trunks would stop working. Me, just being the way I am, tore what little hair remained on my head out going through the MikroTik looking for some kind of timing parameter that was making the trunk stop working. I worked with the owner of my company trying to get is resolved. We called VI and they said our equipment wasn't responding yet I was able to remote into the MikroTik and the SPA8000. So after he got off the phone with VI I started seeing 5060 traffic but still couldn't complete an incoming call. I Updated the DID again and it started working flawlessly ever since. We also had some problems with some of their outgoing providers that was keeping our customers from making calls to certain area codes. I am not in any way saying they are a bad company. They have been great to deal with just have been having issues as of late and we like to try new providers. It was probably a management decision more than anything and me just the little guy. LOL!!! I did like the control with the backoffice login though.

@overthebars, excellent feedback, I value that highly. The Mikrotiks can be wild, and I have a similar issue with a PRI from Comcast. Everything looks good, runs well and then it drops for no apparent reason at 6am or so every now and then. You would think it would be simpler.

@YanceyWorks Yea, that type of issue drives me absolutely insane. But hey, all we can do is keep shooting at it until we get it fixed. It definitely doesn't fix itself... LOL

Our formula for busy taxi call centres on dedicated SIP trunks (3-8K call / day)

fully managed DSL ( we use easynet in the UK here) on either a 1:1 SDSL or one of their etherstream (2/4/6 or 8 bonded DSL). they now offer LLU FTTC connections, which is much better value.

Watchguard XTM 330 for larger sites, and / or XTM 25 for smaller / branch offices.

Regular trusted SIP provider (we own the provider so its a no brainer for us)

Backup PSTN (ISDN 2e) for auto fail over if broadband is down.

No need to piss around with QoS as the DSL is used ONLY for SIP.

The firewalls are all multiwan capable so adding more DSL if needed for other functions isnt an issue and we do that all the time to help customers consolidate their broadband and firewalls / routers.
