Hello Everyone,

We are currently working to migrate from analog lines to digital sip trunks. We have an Avaya IP office 500 v2 running the latest software. Has anyone worked with any reliable and very compatible sip trunk providers? We are looking for just 5 at the moment.

Thanks!

Hi,

We are using the service of Accela as our SIP provider. I don't know if it's available in your country.

I have been extremely happy with flowroute.

For SIP only trunking to the PSTN I have worked with 3 providers, below is the best pricing I have seen. I can supply the vendor names offline:

1. Provider 1 $20/monthly, $2/DID, .029/min. in and outbound and .039/min. US48 Toll-Free
2. Provider 2 is $40/mo for 2K in and outbound to $269/mo for 15K in and outbound (includes 15 DID's + 1TF @ .024/min) on 1 year term.
3. Provider 3 is 3 year term is $21 per concurrent call + $188 for 10K Min (Toll-Free & LD) or $448 for 25K min, includes delivery via Adtran 900e or Straight SIP (others direct SIP only)

All options are delivered via BYOB (bring your own bandwidth).

Most offer 30 days of trial and you will want to manage the setup carefully for QOS of course.

Thanks everyone! I am located in Texas, USA. I found voip.com, anyone heard of them?

Also as for QOS, do you think it is necessary in our application... we have a 100/20 mbps service with only 3-4 computers not doing very much (most defiantly not watching videos)I was thinking,QOS may not be necessary as this will add a few hundred bucks to our install as we will need a more capable router.

Thanks!

You need QOS at any time.
Why? because speech issues is a big problem.
If your customers can not reach you then they might walk away to somebody else.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

AACon, how did you implement Flowroute and with what PBX\ISP, etc?

Cruzades, some question for you, and how long have you been working with them?

tlpeter, 100% agree, and it doesn't have to be anything special. Even an inexpensive Mikrotik router has excellent QOS capabilities if a bit complex to setup.

So, what QOS compatible/capable routers would y'all recommend? I have worked with mikrotik... a little complicated. I have a ubiquiti edgemax but that hasn't proved to be very helpful or secure.

Thanks!

I am not talking about the router in this case but yes that one needs QOS too.
I am talking about your internet connection.
You can have 1000Gb up and down but if it has no QOS and your neighbor is taking all your bandwidth then you have a problem (happens without QOS on the line)

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

tlpeter, I'm not sure I understand you. Wouldn't that need to be done on the ISP's end? All I can do is QOS on my networks so bandwidth hungry applications don't clog the outbound WAN, no?

Thanks!

You can never guarantee QOS or bandwidth on standard WAN connections, regardless of the speed. Unless of course, both peers are aware of it. No ISP's provide QOS for any voip applications (unless it's MPLS or something) as far as I know. You can have the best router in the world, but it's *best effort* on your wan. I would implement QOS on the LAN side however. It's easy enough with a decent layer 3 switch to put in vlans for data and voice and prioritize them.

Yancey, I have flowroute working on my IP Office in my lab. Works great. Was super easy to setup, had it going within a few minutes; AWESOME rates too. I actually used Kyle's guide to set it up.

Thanks AACon. I guess that is beyond my control then. I'm sure many deployments for sip are using best effort on the public internet/WAN. Anyone have any recommendations for QOS routers and layer 3 switches? We are running a small network, all the switches are currently unmanaged gigabit.

Thanks!

I personally like the adtran netvanta series; 1200 or 1300 series. I had a 1224 for a long time, it was a great switch. I had to sell it to pay off a bookie. Oh well. The adtran switches were "built for voice".

Also, EXTREME switches are the bees knees, but, they are pricey.

The dell powerconnects are not bad. They can get $$ if you need full gig on all the ports though.

Thanks AACon, I will check those models out!

@YanceyWorks, I'd love to know those companies and what type of Internet connection are you using for your sip trunk?

@AACons,what type of Internet connection are you using for your sip trunk?

Thanks!

@gswimfrk, the connection types vary from cable internet to fiber depending on site. I am liking the flowroute numbers and will likely test them.
