SIP trunk failing randomly

Hi,

Anyone come across SIP trunks randomly failing and requiring deletion/recreation of the SIP line?

The background:
I recently did a SIP install, using an IP500 v1 running 9.0(829); everything was fine, for a few hours, and then out of the blue, the SIP trunk failed with no changes to the internet router or IP 500 (I was busy deploying handsets to peoples desks, so deffo no changes made). Multiple reboots of all equipment had no effect, and out of frustration/desparation, I deleted and recreated the SIP line, and this resolved it. I saved a copy of this config.
Weeks later, the customer has called up and reported to me that the SIP trunk has failed again; again, reboots had no effect, and even applying the working config I had saved had no effect. Once more, I deleted and recreated the line, and it came back to life.

This has left me with a working system, but also with the awkward question of "why did this happen, and how do we prevent it from happening again"...

Thanks,

Will

Is this a hosted sip or dedicated sip provider?

When the SIP Lines fail, if you open the MONITOR and trace the call, can you post the results so we can see what the IPOffice is doing?

Curious if the IPOffice is rejecting the call or simply failing to respond?

Also, what type of card are you using for your VCM resources?

Is the SIP through a shared (voice and data) connection and what router have you got running it??

I'm afraid I have no traces available; if it happens again, I'll take some, but the first time it happened, I watched the monitor when calling in, and there was absolutely zero activity.

The SIP is on a shared internet connection, provided by a Draytek 2920.

Not sure what the difference is between a hosted or dedicated SIP provider; it's O-Bit, one of the Daisy group.

Card is a VCM32.

Thanks for responding :)

That's the culprit right there, when we use Draytek routers and run SIP over them (regardless of it being Avaya or Mitel etc) every now and then all SIP traffic suddenly stops being passed...no Rx, nothing makes it through the router. A reboot of the router is usually required or an rare occasions the system needs a reboot to clear but the common factor is the Drayteks. As such we are looking at alternatives, there was also another post here recently with the exact same issue involving Draytek routers :)

BTW, forgot to mention on the 3 sites we have managed to convince the customer to ditch the Draytek there has been no drop since, all of them have had continuous service for at least 18 months :)

Oh dear; Drayteks are our weapon of choice at my company. What routers do you typically use with SIP?

I agree with Andy on this. Drayteks are rubbish for SIP. I did one last week and it has been a pain in the arse since then. Draytek 2930!!!!

Customer threatening to sue for loss of business!!!! Not good and we will not so it again.

I believe we are going to start recommending Sonicwall as a minimum SIP router. We run 2 in house with no issues. Don't think that has been set in stone. HSM will say Watchguard.

Just spend more than £150 that the Drayteks are!!!!

There are a couple of settings Draytek reckon fixes it, telnet in and do sys sip_alg 0 (I think that's it) and also ip arp accept 1
However in testing....it doesn't seem to do jack sh1t :)
