Does anyone out there have a single report that is viewed by a large number of users. Large number meaning 500+. I would be very interested in how you implemented your row security. Obviously, you don't want to run the report 500 times filtering for each user. Also, with a report this large, you don't want to let each of those 500 users schedule a "run now". Using business view's row security doesn't work because of the large number and dynamic nature of the users. APOS's View Time Security (Processing Extension) isn't a solution because the average internal user who would maintain the list of 500+ users doesn't understand inputting Crystal type filter strings.

I know there are CE users out there in a similar situation as me. I would really like to know what you ended up doing and how its working for you.

Another reason why proprietary security doesn't make sense.

Add database security to the database, then one of the parameters passed to the database is the user id, which will then filter rows.

Of course this is database dependent, and involves lots of planning, but long term, across all of the tools that require security, it's well worth it.

Well said. I couldn't agree more with your sentiment. The idea of using a database tool the way it was designed to be used. Hmmmm. Unfortunately, the database is not mine. It is being administered by someone else so I don't have that option.

Any other ideas?

You might consider building Views into the database which would observe some ROLE type security perhaps embedded into some additional security tables.

Otherwise some dynamic execution might be available through code and inheriting rights from some tables/code as well, none of which are pretty.

Does it have to be a single report? Why not make 10 or 12 almost-identical versions with 50 users each?

You can use code to solve this problem. I mean JAVA or other programming language ca solve this.
