I am thinking of purchasing an .mdb from a supplier - with full source code. Their price is $100 more for the Multi User version than the Single User version. I can't think of anything which would prevent one from using a 'Single User' version across a network. Am I wrong?
TIA

They might send you the database with a workgroup file that is set up with only one account, in which case everyone would have to log with the same user name and password. And/Or they might have set up the database to open exclusively, only allowing one copy of the database to be open at one time. They are most likely using the custom workgroup file which should be set up to prevent you from changing this.

Thanks Rob
If I am given the full source code and if there are no protections can't I alter the settings you referred to?

Yes, if they are basically working on the honor system =) then I don't think that you have too much to worry about. If they are giving you all of that, I don't think that there will be any settings like the ones that I described above. One would expect to get a compiled .mde database file and a .mdw workgroup file - that's it. It sounds kind of amateur on their part that they would give you the same database, and ask you to pay more. However, in the case of licencing agreements it is always an honor system, what is really stopping you from taking your Win98 CD and making a thousand copies of it? (please note that I am not advocating software piracy)
