Hi All,

I host the website and DNS for a client who hosts his own Mail server. I forward MX,mail and smtp records to his server.

MX = x.x.x.102
Mail. & SMTP. x.x.x.101

Everything has been working fine. Now he has added a redundant connection with another IP in case of a connection failure, so I have added an additional MX record with a lower priority to the new address

Is there a way do something similiar with the mail. and SMTP. records so if the original connection fails client machines can still send and recieve mail?

Thanks a million.

Well I would believe it to be fairly straight forward especially for someone with as much experience as yourself based on the amount of post you make in this topic but here it is:

In addition to the MX records, I have an "A" record for Mail.DomainName, SMTP.DomainName and WebMail.DomainName to allow for POP3 and WebMail access.

Your response leads me to believe that this is not the way to go, however, it is the only way I know how to provide these services. A point in the right direction would be appreciated.

Puno Hvala,
