My company has just switched to Lotus Notes v6.5.4 from Microsoft Exchange.

Nobody is happy about this, as the application we are using really sucks.

I had Outlook configured to minimize to the task tray (as a small icon). This meant the main program wasn't taking up a location on the taskbar when it wasn't needing to be.

To replicate this I use the Lotus Notes Minder that will alert me to an email, but currently whenever I open Notes I have to enter a password.

I've tried enabling the "Login to Notes using your operating system login", (it was already enabled but greyed out. If I ran Notes as an Admin then it was available. I de-selected it and then selected it and was told I must re-boot). but it still isn't working.

Notes and Windows passwords are the same, but I'm not sure if the Notes and Windows username is the same.

Eg,

If my name was John Smith then:

Windows = JSmith
Notes = ?? (In User Security under who you are name = John Smith)

Do these need to be the same also?

Can anyone help sort this out? All users here would be very grateful!!

Did you install the client using the Single Sign on option? That has to be done in order to use the Windows login for Lotus Notes. It can only be turned on during the Lotus Notes client installation process.

and it runs as a service too i believe but Notes2008 was correct its something extra you have to select at install.

second thing i would like to add is that, the Lotus Notes Minder will not use single signon from what i have ever see, and i run the single signon for the client

Yup - SSO is an option at install time; not sure if it can be added later.

What I don't quite get is how many people I see still using v6 or v7 of Notes/Domino when I've been on v8 for over a year. Even in the most restrictive environments you'd think there would be enough of a window to get somewhat updated.

Thanks for all the posts.

I couldn't install SSO feature after the installation was carried out, so had to uninstall and redo it.

I haven't managed to get this working as I want.

I want similar functionality to Outlook with Exchange, but haven't achieved that yet.

Currently I sign-in to Minder and still have to sign into Notes, but the password changes with my Domain account at least.

I got an appliaction that minimises Notes to the tray (like Outlook can) so that at least it doesn't take up space on the taskbar when not in use, even though I have to have it open all the time (to avoid re-signing in each time I get new emails!).

Far from perfect. I'd like v8 but we are not allowed it yet. Is this handled better in v8?
