While I've done some searching of the forum topics (as well as AVAYA's website support) I haven't been able to nail down the answer to my current issue.

Here are the details:
[li]We have a Legend/Magix phone system with MLX phones.[/li]
[li]Hybrid/PBX mode.[/li]
[li]Magix 4.0/Release 7.0[/li]
[li]My bosses want a conference phone (Polycom or ?) set up in our main conference room.[/li]
[li]I've acquired an MFM card and installed it in a test phone (using my office and extension number).[/li]
[li]I have a simple two line phone that I've connected (four wire) to the MFM TEL/Other jack[/li]
[li]I've determined what the extension number (in this case 7330) of the POTS phone is and verified by doing an Intercom Ring from another MLX phone.[/li]
[li]Lifting the handset on the POTS phone gives me the system tone but no outside dial tone.[/li]
[li]Question: How do I program this phone so that dial tone is available when lifting the handset rather than the system tone?[/li]

Looking forward to the day we get a VOIP system[hairpull]

Assuming that pool 70 is the one that contains all of your outside line, the pool that is accessed when you dial 9, here's what you do.

Go to Extensions > Line and Trunks > Ext. No > Enter > Entry Mode > 70 > Enter
This will assign Pool 70 to the extension

Go to Centralized Telephone Programming for the extension, which will appear like a multiline phone. You will see the Pool 70-I button has been assigned to button 3 (maybe 4, can't remember for sure for a single line set)

Hit that pool button and dial *35 to set it to No Ring. The display should change to Pool 70-N (you don't want the speakerphone ringing every time a call comes into the business)

Now dial *14 to begin Automatic Line Selection programming, press the Pool 70 button, and dial **14 to end Automatic Line Selection programming

Now when you go off hook on the speakerphone, it will be connected to a line in Pool 70 and you can dial away without the leading 9 for outbound

Excellent! Thanks TTT!

The only confusion/difficulty I encountered was with that final instruction (to get rid of the need to dial 9 to get an outside line when going off hook). It was after several attempts that I noted when entering the **14 it was coming up ****14. Central Programming software was automatically entering the 2nd *. So, only a need to type one * and 14 for that particular instruction.

I used this protocol to program the conference room adjunct extension. Did a test with a POTS phone - works!

Now, if I just didn't need the external power supply that would be even better.
