Four computers here have decided their 4+ years old P4 CPUs are now dual core. The Task Manager performance section shows very similar, but different activity on both panels. The View > CPU History options are for One graph, All CPUs or One graph, per CPU.

Can anyone explain this phenomenon?

[Cheers]

There is a virtual core for hyper threading

Your P4 has hyperthreading enabled in the Bios

dseaver,
Thank you. That was it. I use SolidWorks which does not play nice with Hyperthreading, so it has always been disabled on my machine. On the other machines (without SW) I had never noticed the Task Managers split view before. Something either changed the View setting or I just suddenly became aware of the difference.

Thanks again.

[Cheers]

One thing, are you using XP with these machine (especially yours)?
We had loads of grief with HT on 2K and 2K server, but it is ok on XP and W2003 server.

Only the truly stupid believe they know everything.
