simple reporting

Hello,
I am developing an application using sql server 2005 express. In this application, I will have to create a few reports based on the data in the database. These reports will only need to be created locally on the server, and there are only about 4 or 5 reports that will need to be converted to PDF (I will use cutePDF to print the file to pdf). I am looking for an easy solution for creating the reports. I tried briefly to configure sql server reporting services, but can't seem to get it running right - it seems a bit complicated for what I will need to do.
Can anyone recommend and easy to set up and administer reporting solution that would fit my needs? I would have used Access, but that is not an option at the moment.
