Hi, Being more of a network engineer type I don't work with Windows 2000 Advanced Server much but today I have had to install a server. It is to be used as a firewall and I thought set up the routing service and get all the network configuration set up for the 3 NIC in the box.

But... there are absolutely no packets being sent or received on the interfaces. The links are up at 100Mbps, the IP addresses show up in ipconfig and route print shows all my routes. The routing service is running.

I am a little inexperienced with servers, is there some blatantly obvious MS windows thing I may be missing to get the server to communicate with the network?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Can you ping any other computers? Guess not...

Blatantly obvious would be to right click on the network connection and click on enable!!

And of course you could have the drivers not configured properly...

One more thing you can try is Install the NetBEUI protocol... if by any chance it isn't installed... Right click on each connection... See if NetBEUI is installed... If not...Click Add... protocol... NetBEUI... Do this for all 3 connections...

Thanks Infinito for the reply.

I just found out what my problem was..... NIC cards sometimes show a link light even though they are not working correctly, well the one I was trying to configure was not working correctly, in fact it wasn't seated correctly in the box.

I reseated the card and bosh, its working now. I'm not going mad after all.

Sorry for wasting your time with this one, I only post when I am at my wits end and I was but any replies are always welcome.

Thanks
