Hello,
I have a machine with win2k server installed but not configured -- am i able to install/setup dns and then ad with the local area connection unplugged (i.e., the machine sitting by itself connected to nothing), or must i plug into a hub, another computer, or install a loopback adapter in order for it to work?
I do not want to do any of those things yet because I am going to be moving it in a few days and I just wanted to do a simple setup (if possible) without faking a connection.

Thanks,
Ernest

I tried this 2 days ago and AD would not install, I had to plug the Server into a hub.

that is where i am headed right now; setting up ad w/o a nic card connected is not possible

You wont be able to setup without a network connection
as domain controller dont use loopback address for many
of their operations.

However if you've got a wireless NIC you get plugin
and put in ad-hoc mode, it will establish a connection
without actually needing to be connected to any other
NIC or access point.
