Hi, i have a pc running xp pro, with a ati radeon 9200, recently it started adjsuting itself before boot up, so i tried reinstalling drivers, however on first boot up, bios is showed, but as soon as windows loads log in screen, it goes blank and shows signal over range. I've tried safe mode, last good known config, but nothing. Also tried new different monitor, graphics card. Any suggestions?

If the same problem happens in Safe mode with a different known working monitor and video card both installed at the same time, then make sure the MB's onboard video adapter is disabled either in BIOS or with a MB jumper(if so equipped).

If no luck or the MB does not have an onboard video adapter, then check for viruses with an AV boot floppy.

If none are found and the video card is a PCI, then insert it in a different slot.

If no good, then the MB may be defective.

Here comes another twist: i put my hard drive in another totally different computer, and found the same problems. Any clues now? Thanks for other mssg.

The HD may be infected with a virus.

You said it also does that with a different graphics card? Hmmm. I'd tought that there was a problem with the graphics driver loading a wrong lookup table (for the contrast and alpha parameters in graphics modes). Perhaps that this function is now controlled by Direct X, leading to the same result with a different graphics card. But I doubt that the safe mode uses DirectX.

A virus could explain the problem, but is it just a coincidence that it happened after i uninstalled the drivers?

But you did state that the system started "adjusting itself" before you reinstalled the drivers.

Well i finally got round to scanning it for viruses and it found none.
