Hi All,
We have a siemens hipath 4000 pabx system that is currently giving us a problem. when you call an intercom phone you hear it ringing but the call party can not hear the ringing to pick the call. what problem can this be?

Hi,
Are you pressing a Direct Station Select Key (Button) or dialing a number.
Is it only one phone or all phones

Hi SBCSU,
Thanks for the prompt response .dialling an intercom number. it is happening on about 30 intercom phones. the other numbers are working ok.
When you make a call to the intercom number you hear it ringing but the other party can not year the ring out to pick your call

Hi,
Can you please explain what an intercom number is -
Would they be analog or digital phones.
If they are analog POTS phones then it could be that the ringer has gone faulty.
If you ring a phone and even though there is no ring sound from the phone - pick it up to see if you can answer.
If you can answer then the ringer(s) are faulty on either the power supply/built in card ringer or more likely the 'gold ringer' on the backplane

I'm zooming in on the keyword "Pick".

In your pickup group you must have it set up to do notification (signalling type). I'm using V7 speak here, but V5 was the same way as far as I can remember - you have options of having it flash the LED, have it make a single beep, or a triple beep, place a message on the display if a display phone, etc. If you look at your Pick group in Assistant look at the Suppl Data tab. If signalling type is set to None then you will not be notified of a call coming into a Pick group.

If you are talking about members of a Communications group (Com group, Intercom group) the phone you are attempting to call should make an alert tone and then open up the microphone and speaker so you can reply. I think that tone is a system-wide parameter, but would depend on if the user's volume is up.

If your Pick or Com group is of analog phones I think the only notify type you can have is a single short or triple ring, considering there is no display.

Thanks to you all,
regarding the intercom number, what I mean is that .if you have an extension let say 1408 and you are calling 1406 the extension 1406 does not ring but if you pick it up you can hear 1408 talking. This problem is happening on only the analogue cards the digital cards are not affected. This problem is also peculiar to numbers in one particular cabinet. I have sent a picture of the cabinet with the affected card and the power supply/built in card for your attention

Yes - that is it, the 'gold ringer', known to go faulty.
You need to power off that shelf, remove the gold ringer and replace with a new working one.
Ensure that the settings on the new one are the same as the old one (There are jumper pins on the back that need to be checked)
Other than that what you can do in the meantime is move some extensions to another shelf if necessary.

Gold Ringer Details:
RGMOL KENNDATENLISTE
Part Number: S30124-X5109-X-*-ZSYS

When you dial an analog extension number ring current from this ring generator is sent to the phone.
When the handset is lifted to answer the ringing stops and the call is connected.
In your test above it shows that the ringer is not sending the ringing current to the phone but you can answer it.

This is due to ringer unit
Ringer unit plugged in back side of ltu or rg card in ltu shelf
Replace defective ringer unit or rg card

Is this one of them old Model 30EP conversions to 4000? I had a 2 cabinet 30EP where the ringer power supply was defective on one of the shelves. It was gonna cost me several colonoscopies to replace that sucker. I chose to remap that board into open space on the shelf that still had a working power supply and just move the tail up to the other cabinet. That worked until I replaced the whole system a couple years later... I'm trying to remember if they wanted $1500 or 5 grand for that power supply - it wasn't cheap!!

No Don it's a small 'gold ringer' box that is bolted to the back plane.
They are notorious for going faulty at the wrong times.
I had one go faulty on an install, had to drive back to base and back again, got 4 speeding tickets for my efforts:)

LOL - I've had my fair share of those or near misses over the years. I never had the pleasure of seeing the gold box - sounds a lot like the DAT drive adventures from the 9006 days. I think I had more bad backups than good ones!

Thanks once again,
I am most grateful for the various responses given.
How do I get the "gold ringer" to buy?
How fast do I get it?
How much will it cost?

You could try Unify or eBay may have one, I am not sure of prices.
