Sidekick 2 is the classic PIM - none of the others that followed it are anything like as good. The main reason SKW2 works so well is that it has large buttons and, in particular , a big "Add Cards" right above each address card. Also the "Find" button is great - exactly where you want it with right and left search buttons either side.
On subsequent editions some idiot stripped those features out and replaced them with small buttons on the speed bar - nothing like as convenient.
My problem is can the layout of Sidekick 2 somehow be migrated onto Sidekick 98? If not I'm staying with sidekick 2 forever. There's nothing else on the market to touch it.

Dear newsnet,
Good luck to you I wish you all the best.

One thing though, If I could Code Sidekick95/97/98 as well as the person who changed your favourite buttons I could hardly be regarded as an idiot!

I would probably be regarded as the person who could change them back for you.

By the way, in Sidekick95/97/98 all you need to do to bring up the add a record dialog is Press Ctrl+A.

AFAIK there is no way to do what you have suggested.
;-)(unless the 'Idiot' is around and available);-)

Still and all, I wish you the best,
Why change if you are happy?

Reading between the lines of your reply and checking out out the other helpful advice you have given I guess you must have been involved in writing the original code for Sidekick - am I right?

If so, I take my hat off to you. You 'da man! Great work and much appreciated by all us Sidekick users. It may be a 1995 release but it's by far the most used programme on my machine.

If only (in my Dreams!),
No I wasn't involved but I've been using it for a lot of things it wasn't originally designed for and have stumbled on some of the problems and had to solve them myself.

There are other wiser heads here that have used it since early DOS days and have made the decision like yourself, that smaller/tidier is better.
I would tend to differ (whilst admiring the attitude) specifically because of the way that I use it

As I said at the beginning of my last post, Good Luck to you and I hope that one of the developers will hear your plea.

p.s.
After sending a message to Starfish about the Sidekick99 error Mast.wk "invalid file to complete this action" (following a suggestion on their site) and receiving a reply which said that they no longer supported even Sdk99, I made the suggestion that if they wanted to sell me the remains of Sidekick for a small sum I would consider it.

I'm not sure the message was passed on to the relevant person!

Furthermore, If Sidekick could be rewritten to make it independent of it's DOS limitations (Memory/GDI resource wise) I feel that there would not be a program around that could touch it. (for performance and ability)

Regards Jim

I have SWK2 running on my Win98 machine and hope to install it onto my new WinXP Home Edition machine. If it is possible to do so, but perhaps with some difficulty, can someone advise me how to avoid those?

Dear jpritch,
If you look around this Forum you will find that most people who are using Sidekick on WinXP are using the SDK98 version with the Year2000 Patch as that seems to have the most functionality with the least problems.
If you check out the Faq area of this forum specifically:

faq807-1313

You will find out how to download this version and the patch.
Pay special attention to all the advice that Starfish give for installing the Program and Patch (See the links) and since you are on WinXP make sure you are logged in as Administrator when installing it.

About installation see also:
