Sidekick 2.0 Corrupted *.sdb file 1

Cardfile with lots of my contacts won't open. It shows zero bytes. I read the FAQ on restoring corrupted SK2.0 sdb files, but unlike that author, I am not getting the left hand index pane. Any ideas how to "repair" the file?

I am afraid that if you have 0 bytes then that is what you have, Waterloo (and in this situation you are Napoleon).

But if you have zero bytes, it doesn't look good.
What does Windows Explorer show the size of the file to be?

Went to CMD (Dos prompt) and the dir listing also shows zero bytes.

I had used the file a few days ago, saved and closed, all without incident.

I had hoped there was a "repair file" program or macro. Sounds like there is not.

I read Doug Silver's FAQ. Can try Norton (I am rusty with it), but assume it would be rather futile, since the file headers, etc. would not be correct if I just found random sectors.

I went to Norton Systemworks 2001 Unerase File Utility. I asked Norton to search for a file with the name of one of my contacts. Apparently, when I last used Sidekick, it deleted or placed a copy of my SDB file in the Norton protected deleted files bin, either as part of a normal process when I edited the SDB cardfile, or as a part of the file being corrupted.

Norton restored the file from a few days ago from the deleted file bin, and I am back in business, with backups now made!

I am still the Duke of Wellington, and not yet Napolean.
