How long does Windows 2003 server running on IBM 335 take to shut down?

I'm trying to guage what UPS to purchase and I would like to base the desision more on functionality than overkill.

it could be any where to 30 seconds to 10 minutes or more depending what you run. when i have almoast all of the roles installed including domain Controller with roaming profiles, it takes about 2 - 4 mins. that incudes saving settings and loging off. if you have schema additives such as exchange server 2003 enterprise edition. it can take 15 minutes or more. if you could describe the server software and the workload that you computer in under I could probably tell you. The fastest way to do it is just to try it. Get at stop watch, time it and then add 5 minutes to the "critical time" that you need. also tell me what drives your running and other devices that draw lots of power this could help me to understand your situation much better.

We haven't built it yet. But it will be running Windows 2003 Enterprise, Seconday DC, and Terminal services in Application mode. Nothing else.

It shouldnt take more than 10 minutes to shut down unless you have an extreeme number of clients connected at once that have to close applications.

I'd say it depends on how your install goes..If you install something wrong or something goes bad..the worst that can happend is a service won't shut down. but the time out period is set to 15 minutes. so give it another 2 or so and you'l be covered. if its normal it should take no more that 2-3 minutes
