Hi all,

We have a report that is currently ouptuted in text and I was asked to additionally provide a pdf output.

The problem is that in the pdf output the font is automatically chosen as one or two points larger and hence there is not enough space for the data to be displayed within the specified places (so I see *** everywhere).

This report is already really optimized. It is in Portrait and every square inch is used. So the only solution I see is to be able to shrink the font in the pdf output.

If you have any idea, I would appreciate the input.

In the report's section properties set Height and Width as large as you need to fit all fields comfortably, but keep the ratio the same as for the standard page. When printing the PDF, select standard paper size and chek 'Fit to Page' box in print dialog box.

Hi nagornyi,

Thanks again for your reply!

I guess I wasnt specific enough. We run all our reports from oracle applications (web based), and the *** are displayed in the actual file (pdf generated in oracle application) not the printed output. So, from my limited understanding of these things, I need to tell oracle application to use a smaller font (although I see no such option in the concurent program definition window) or possibly tell reports builder...

You can not tell Oracle Application to use smaller font. You can do this in report designer, that means you need to modify the rdf file and then upload it. Better way would be not to reduce the font size, but to increase the page size and allow more space for fields as I wrote. This approach works only for PDF files, as Adobe Reader will then shring the file back to standard page size (if you tell it to do so while printing) without distorting the output.

Thanks nagornyi for another valuable post. I wil try this this after the holidays :).

Hi,

Well what you said is exactly right. You can shrink the font from report builder and that will work. And you can also increase the page size and allow for enough space and that will work too and is also the more elegant approach.

A quick question, is there a way to increase all of the fields at the same time after having increased the page size. The reason I asked is that we have several other reports that we would like to make available in pdf format and it will become quite a hassle to increase the fields one by one.

I just figures it out..Exactly like word. Group and then strecth..

Thanks
