Hello all. I need some help here.

I am making a access DB that I have been attempting to put together for well over a year now. Up to this point I have hit some brick walls but over came them. I am up against another here. What I am trying to do is, I have four U.S. Army installations here in Alaska. I have created a DB that tracks workorders, man hours, dollar cost etc. Problem is I have the same one four times. What I would like to do is make a front screen or Switchboard? that is a drop down menu that they can pick the proper Army post and the DB then only populates with the posts information come up and is only available to them. How can I do this?

The databases are the exact same with the exception of a few things like employee names, Range names, vehicles etc. All four installations will use the same DB but with there unique info. So I guess the bottom line is how do I take four copies of the same DB, populate it with each installations info and when they click to open the DB it brings up a front screen for them to select there installation and then it only brings up there info?

Thanks for any and all advice.

Bill

By the way, I just realized something. When you balked about deleting all the rows from the Location table, was that because you thought you had to delete them one at a time? You can delete them all by opening the table datasheet, clicking the little square in the upper left corner (selects all records), and pressing Delete.

I don't know if you realize that the FRA.mdb About box has an email address. Although Tek-Tips discourages members from taking a problem off the board, the reason is that it deprives future users from benefitting from the resolution. At this point, my earlier long post demonstrates most of the solution I think, and since this database is quite complex and is likely to involve considerable exchange between us that wouldn't benefit future users, I would be willing to establish an email dialog with you, if you like.

Combined.mdb confirms what I expected to see. The only problem I note is that you imported all the relationships. I neglected to warn you not to do that. We're going to change the primary keys of virtually all of the tables, and you can't do that if the table is a parent in a relationship. We will need to delete the relationships and recreate them after we change the primary keys. After that we can import the data from the front ends.

Rick,

I balked at the deletion because I thought I would have to re-type all those name. Thanks for the pointer on the mass deletion though, I did not know that.

I forgot about the email address being in the about box. My mistake. I would greatly appriciate the email dialog. You have no idea how much you are and have helped me thus far.

So, you have my work email so I will let you make the first contact, than I will give you my home email as well if you want.

Thank you so much. I do check my work email at home also.

Bill
