I need to show the timecode in the movie while it is playing. That way the person viewing the movie can tell me where they want cuts made. How can I accomplish this? I'm using adobe premiere 6. But I could upgrade to 6.5 if necessary.

Thanks in advance,
jason

Hi there Jason,

A very valid question; the easiest way is to use Adobe After Effects 5.5 ..... a very expensive package, sorry about that.

Regards,

Joe.

To get this done i can use whatever is needed. how would i go about doing it in adobe after effects? thanks!

Add a new solid layer, add effect>text>numbers
and then u can animate that to create a timer.

There are a number of ways to do this.

You can render in a timecode overlay from a separate movie file - there are some on the net for free download if you go looking.

Or you can export to DV tape and use a camera to generate a timecode overlay on a client VHS.

Or you can burn to a CD in MPEG1 or MPEG2 or similar format for computer replay and use movie player's timecode as the frame of reference.

There are a number of other ways that have been suggested to avoid paying for After Effects for such a narrow benefit. Have a look back through the Adobe Premiere forum archives.

Is there a way to display the timecode generated by a sony digital camera that is embedded in the DV stream? Someone surely had a plugin for this.

Hi Guys,

Has anyone managed to resolve this (other than buying after effects)? Would like to do a little clip with some laptime sort of style counter display. It's for some filming I did whilst skiing.

Thanks in advance
