Sometimes when Iam using my Crystal Dictionaries the Show SQL Query option is not enabled. What am I doing or what can be done to ensure this option is on. I need to review my sql, to ensure the Dictionary is correct. Sometimes the same dictionary causes this to work and not to work. But I have not figure what I am doing to cause this. I am using Crystal 8.5

The only time I have seen it turn off is if the dictionary connects to non-SQL data. You are absolutely certain that this is the same dictionary and not a different version?

Is there any pattern to when it fails?
Can you get it to fail pretty easily for testing? Ken Hamady, On-site/Phone Crystal Reports Training/Consulting

No, I can not find a pattern and yes it is the same dictionary. I would say it happens most when I use the 'Add Database to Report' option. I have create two reports with Page Header and Page Footer standards so I don't have to keep creating and aligning this stuff, sort of like a template if Cyrstal allowed for templates. Then I add the appropriate Dictionary that I want to use to that report. This is when I have the must problems.

What is the template report using as it's data source? If you remove that table it might solve the problem. Ken Hamady, On-site/Phone Crystal Reports Training/Consulting

I thought you had the answer, but no luck. I created a new report with only a title and used NO datasource as my new report template. It worked for a few tries but then one Dictionary did not work and now a few others don't work either. I used a Dictionary that is very simple, 3 tables. When I add it to the report I get a message "More than one datasource or stored procedure used in this report." I know it is the only datasource and there is no stored procedure. I guess at this point I want to know is should I be using dictionaries, I do not particluar find the tool that good. We have order Info Viewer is this any better. How are others reusing the same table joins. The original problem is Crystals Smart Linking by Key or Name is not creating the correct links.

Thanks again for you help.

That message is telling you that one of the tables used in the dictionary itself is coming from a different source than the others. It might be from two different SQL sources or a SQL with a non-SQL. At least, Crystal *thinks* there is more than one data source.

But, I am not sure why.

I really like the idea of the Crystal Dictionary. Unfortunately they have not updated it since Version 5, which means it is pretty clunky. From what I have heard, Info Views are pretty similar to Dictionaries. The way to know is to see if the function list has been expanded in the formula editor.
