Show/Hide option

Hi, Has anyone come across this problem before?

One of our users has the show/hide option displayed permanently. If you try to turn off this with the button on the toolbar it remains! I've tried repairing/reinstalling the MS office installation (and am upto dates with MS updates on the PC and in Office) also tried a variety of normal.dot files..

Any ideas how to fix this?

Paul,
I know this is trite, but have you unticked everything on the the Tools | Options | View tab | Formatting Marks? This is not controlled by the Show|Hide icon.
