I am working on a Javascript/DHTML nav bar. I need to make a floating box dissapear when mouseover a certain image and im having real dificulties doing so. Can someone enlighten me!!!!#
I just thought I would throw in that even though I am a huge advocate for abandoning antiquated versions of browsers, sometimes it cannot be avoided. For example, if the client is oh, say, our fine military, their technology is AT LEAST six months to a year behind. And because of the competitive nature of the business, one simply cannot demand more money to develop for their technology, for the client would just choose the lowest bidder. Thus the importance of being able to develop for all conditions.
OK. Im speaking from the point of view of someone who is just starting to learn Javascript. It IS a huge pain to have to make your code cross browser compatible... it seems to me that there are to many "standards" and not enough compatibility. Why should a programer or web designer have to double his work because companies cannot agree on how things should be done. Why should our customers have to pay twice as much because a couple of very rich companiescannot back there browsers compatible?%-(
my point is, that all of these arguments from Angel/Andrew/Iza have been made, but with respect to IE 3/NS 3. If everyone listened to the arguments then, we wouldn't have a user group like we do now (88%+ using IE4+).
I didn't take it as an insult Andrew, I just feel strongly about this. In addition to all of this, there are things you simply cannot do using NS4 and when you do try to support it, the code becomes very bloated.
And BTW, I like opera also. you'll notice the menu on the site I write for supports opera5 (which was a pain in the ...), but opera is very quick, and I like that (I don't understand why they don't support element creation though!) jared@aauser.com -
i'll red flag you all guys, because it's not the appropriate forum ;-) ( LOL who started to garbage this nice thread .... i'm sorry !!! i just wanted to say that sometimes we spend time trying to write cross browser/old browser code, but we don't often wonder if this code is USEFUL to the user - ok if we're paid/asked to do so, but if it's for personnal use, and if it adds nothing to your site, why the hell do you want to lose your time !?)
Well, I suppose if we are discussing the ifs and whens of supporting old browsers scripting issues, we might as well do it here (since most of us are talking about javascript) jared@aauser.com -
hey, rydel started all this again in the html & css forum : thread215-58642 - he points us to a "support browser upgrade" movement or something ! TGWW you should check this out !
