Hi everyone, I have a laptop that is running windows XP Pro. By mistake the show desktop icon was deleted.
Can anyone shed any light on how to get it back?

Regards

Jodi

Search your hard drive for *.scf files. You should find the Show Desktop "shortcut" in at least one folder (I386) perhaps. You should be able to copy it from there to C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch (where c: is your root drive and user = your profile.

Of course you can always add it to the default user profile. It is probably still there but you will not "get it back" automatically unless you delete your profile.

As an aside if you cannot find the scf file it is just a text based scrip containing the following

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Save this as Show Desktop.lnk in

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

has the same effect

windows key + D has the same effect, and you don't need to have any icon anywhere for that
