Should secondary DNS domains auto replicate to secondary DNS servers?

Hi
I had 2 DC's one of which died recently so I have removed all traces of it in AD and DNS etc.

I have a new DC (with a new name and IP) to replace the failed one. My AD domains are replicating fine to it. But, secondary domains are not. I'm sure they did to the original secondary server.

Am I doing something wrong? Surely I don't have to add secondary domains to my secondary server...

Thanks in anticipation

Hi westermo, is the secondary domain AD integrated? I havent got a server in front of me, but I think if it's not AD integrated, you may have to specify a location to hold the zone file on each DC you want it hosted on.

Hope this helps

Hi Paul, thank you for your response.

I'm not sure if they are as they are secondary zones, the zones are owned by other DNS servers located elsewhere.

When I originally added them (years ago), I already had 2 DNS servers and only needed to add them to one of as they soon showed in the forward lookup zones of my other DNS server automatically.

I've added all secondary zones manually to our secondary DNS server for now as they did not automatically show several days after adding them to our primary server.

Things seem to be ok... but I prefer to be 100% sure. Thanks again
