Really? I've always spelled it "Meow", and can honestly say in all my years as a Brit, I've never seen it spelled "Miaou".

 
I have seen it spelt both ways in the UK

As a Scotsman (and owner of 2 cats) I can safely say I've always spelled it as Miaow.

Or miaowed.

Maybe it's just me..
