Hint #1: It's 7 letters long.
Hint #2: Not normal US usage, but used in UK.

Me transmitte sursum, Caledoni!.

How about the slightly shorter [white]Eunoia[/white]?

Strongm,
Code:
[white]I'd vote for 6-lettered "eunoia" if I could just find it in one of my dictionaries.

In the meantime, I'll suggest another entry in the "7-lettered word containing 'aeiou':"..."sequoia", our beautiful California redwood trees.[/white]

Strongm,

Code:
[white]Your link preserved my "eunoia", therefore you get a star from me for the "Shortest-Word-Using-All-Vowels Sweepstakes".[/white]

Here are three seven-letter words... can't find a six-letter one:

Code:
[white]eulogia
eutocia
miaoued[/white]

-------------------------------------
It is better to have honor than a good reputation.
(Reputation is what other people think about you. Honor is what you know about yourself.)

ESquared's third word is the one I was referring to. (In the USA, we spell it "meowed".

But you all get stars.

Me transmitte sursum, Caledoni!.

How about all the values in order (with or without letters in between)?

Oh... I meant shortest.

Shortest words that have all five vowels, in order:

Code:
[white]facetious
arsenious
autecious (with an extra vowel)[/white]

-------------------------------------
It is better to have honor than a good reputation.
(Reputation is what other people think about you. Honor is what you know about yourself.)

Shortest?
Code:
[white]AERIOUS[/white]

And then there are a fair number with 8, such as:

Code:
[white]aleikoum
anemious
caesious
...[/white]

strongm, how are you finding these? If you are using an electronic dictionary, how can I get a copy of it? [smile]

With a bit of cheating:
Code:
[COLOR=white white]IOUAE= (I owe you a Euro, because TGML won't process the symbol!)[/color]
:-D

MakeItSo, you are right...Acronyms are Acrimonious in this game. [wink]

Strongm, very well done! I cannot, however, find a dictionary that will verify "AERIOUS", "aleikoum" (because it is non-English), "anemious" (but "anemias" exists), but "caesious" works. Can you please offer dictionary references/definitions for your contributions?

The other commendable characteristic about all of your contributions is that the vowels appear in alphabetical order ! Zounds!

Okay, now what's the shortest word with five consecutive vowels (in any order)?

The only one I can come up with is
Code:
[COLOR=white]miaoued[/color]

Anything shorter than 7 letters?

Me transmitte sursum, Caledoni!.

My dictionnary didn't show any entry either, but the words sound meaningful to me.
I'd assume "aerious" to be "light", "aleikoum" to be "with you" (salem aleikoum/shalom alechem = peace with you if I'm not mistaken) and anemious to be "sensitive"
[ponder]
But I might also be completely wrong.

SantaMufasa I had to look up "Acrimonious" first.. :-D
- You're right, that was a foul...

Flapeyre,

Yes, ESquared's contribution of "miaoued" is a good one, but apparently, British cats spell their "Miaou" differently from US cats, who spell theirs as "Meow". I cannot locate "Miaoued" in any American dictionary. So, I'm still a bit skeptical of "Miaoued".

I can verify the following two

Aerious - on the nature of air
Caesious - pale bluish color

but I'm having trouble finding definitions of the other offerings.

Good Luck
