Shortcuts problem

Does anyone have any idea as to why the shortcuts on my desktop and in my quick launch toolbar, that point to folders, now suddenly all take me to My Documents. When I do a Properties and look at the Target they are supposed to go to, they are all pointing to the correct folder but when I click on them they go to My Documents.
This has only started happening today but it's driving me mad. Any other shortcut works fine, it's just Folder shortcuts.

try deleting and rebuilding them.

I've deleted and re-built loads of times to no avail.
I decided to go back to a restore point 2 days before and all is o.k. I'm now just intrigued as to why it was happening and what can be done if it happens in the future.
