Hi,

This is probably a stupid question but the client is being difficult.

They want to check the line status (in service/out of service) with a shortcode. I did say they can use the buttons on the phone but they chose not to go for that option.

Basically she just wants to check for dial tone on each line herself. I also offered for her to use the system status application but she doesn't want to.

Any thoughts?

Seriously why?

Configure SMTP and alarms on the trunks.
She will get an email when the trunk is down and up.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

You can't, simple as that. The system doesn't create features just because some self important chair polisher decides that's how it should be done :)

I don't know why. She told me that she could do it on her old telephone system so she wants it to stay that way. I don't pretend to understand how they think. Was just wondering if it was possible without using the buttons configured for each line.

If you sold her a Mitel 5000 she could, but not IP Office. Things change :)

Oh well it's fine thanks for the assist though. I'll just config the buttons for her.

You can but they do not want to hear the answer.
And tell her that "no" is also an answer.
The world does not spin around because she is on the freaking planet :)

Buttons don't give line dial tone though, they give system generated dial tone. The IP Office seizes the line once you haver dialled digits to send, it doesn't seize it and present you the dial tone from the line :)

Oh shoot never thought about that. Even with an IP Phone? Hmmm that could be problematic.

SMTP alarms does do it for you.

If the lines are so unreliable that she needs to constantly monitor them, get her some that works.
Then do as Peter suggested, feed her email alarms.

Kind regards

Gunnar

I'm in South Africa. Not many reliable service providers here unfortunately.

3rd time, use SMTP and alarms.
When the line goes down the IPO sends an email and then you know that it is down.

Yes sorry i got sidetracked. I have set up the SMTP alarms to send her notifications if the line goes down.

She's still not happy but what can you do.

[cheers]Thanks

You are welcome :)
sometimes no is the answer even if they don't like it.
IPGuru thanks :)

Not Happy YET
Given time she will almost certainly grow to like the fact that she does not need to keeps checking.

She probably does not trust the system, once she gets the 1st notification that should change
