I have a "city" that my company can't dial out to using our Avaya phone system. I'm emphasizing city because it's not specific to the area code. The area code is (985). I can dial other city's that have this area code. I just can't dial out to this one city with the same area code. I spoke to someone who suggested that I edit the short codes but I'm hesitant to do this. Oh, I can also dial this city using the phone manager software on my pc. I just can't do it with the physical phone. I also talked to bellsouth and they say its on our end.

Any suggestions????

what type of trunks? also, what dial shortcodes are in the system now? do you have any shortcodes under your user?

I'm not sure what you mean by the type of trunks? There are no short codes set up for individual users. I can paste the short codes, if you like.

trunks are lines. do you have a pri or analog lines?

it doesnt sound like a shortcode issue. if it was a shortcode issue you would not be able to dial anything in that area code, or the opposite, you would be able to dial everything. If you have analog lines i would connect and analog phone to the line before it goes into the ip office and see if you can dial that "city" that cant be reached.

By pri, do you mean digital? We have digital phone lines and analog lines. We can't dial this city on either one.

are all of your lines through the same vendor. You should be able to get someone to come out and at least test your analog lines.

Do a monitor trace to see what the IPO sends out on the trunk when dialing the number from the phone compared to dialing from PM.
If this is the same then it's strange :)

Here's my guess, I think you have a PRI or T1 and you are experiencing a translations problem. This is a problem with the carriers communicating with each other. Somewhere, somehow, a carrier is resticting your call to a specific number or area code. You should open a ticket with your carrier and have the run a trace as you make a call to the number you are hving the problem with.

You should also take note of the message you get from the carrier when the call fails.

Also, you should run monitor and see what cause code comes back when the call fails.

I think this has something to do with the digit(s) after the area code.
It look like when you are manually entering the phonenumber it matches a shortcode, user or huntgroep within your system before the complete number is dialled.
You say you can dial the number in Phonemanager therefore the lines should be OK. When you dial the complete number in phonemanager you send the digits enbloc (complete number) to the IPOffice.
Then the number doesn't match the shortcode, user or huntgroep that you'll end up with dialing manually.

So the 'city' you can reach manually will have a different 4th or 5th digit and doesn't match anything else and get's dialled properly on the lines. But your problem 'city' get's a match inside your IPOffice and therefore doesn't dial out.

So look in your config for a matching 985x item.

oops didn't see the part about you can dial with phone manager. I think Escorthosis is right. What do your short codes look like?

I don't have anything in my config matching 985x.

I'm going to recycle my IP403 box today and let you know if this helped. We have a lot of power surges and this might have caused some of the problems. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for all your suggestions

Try what Janni78 suggested. Run a monitor trace and trace it when dialing the number via phone manager and dialing the number via the phone itself. That way you can see what is actually being sent the the IPO from both the phone and the phone mananger and can compare the two to find whats different.

So I use phone manager to do a monitor trace?!? I'm not sure how to do a trace.

You use the Monitor program that comes on the Admin CD, should be installed where you have tha Manager application.

also use caqll status at the same time
there you can see with wich digit it goes wrong (quick look)
